Dec 23rd- Sew Pretty

Sew

This is an absolutely gorgeous book to browse through during the holidays for inspiration. I got bought this last year and I admit again, I didn't do any of the projects. One year I will, though. What I love most are the fabrics. Oh the fabrics. I researched on line and it looks like you can only order them from the UK- http://www.puddlecrafts.co.uk/ . Tilda is the line.

If you are thinking more about the new year ahead, there are a series of craft books from Tone Finnanger that are also a feast for the eyes.

Dec 12 th- glove reindeer

Glove reindeer

http://kleas.typepad.com/kleas/2009/11/glove-reindeer.html

How cute is this fun little project?

(I'm sorry I can't make my links look cleaner. Ever since I swapped to my mac, it won't let me right click on links and copy/paste into the typepad application. This means I have to re type the entire address to make an active link.  If anyone has had this experience with mac/typepad and has advice, please let me know. It's really frustrating and I'm tempted to leave typepad.)

ADDENDUM: Tech support helped me with this issue. Simple solution is to use the keyboard function "command v" instead of the mouse for pasting. Still not sure why this is an issue but I'm happy there's a solution!

Dec 11th- craft book love

Straysock2
I'm doing it again. I'm sipping a latte and thumbing through gorgeous little books at Barnes & Noble, daydreaming about making these cuties through the winter. I did the same thing last year. Bought lovely craft books and guess what ? I never did a single project. So, I'm trying very hard not to get this. But on the other hand, is it so wrong to have books around  simply for the pleasure of looking at them? Decidedly no!  But not today. If I receive a bookstore gift card for Christmas this is on the top of my list. And so is this one. Another amigurumi book that I won't use. =o)

Stitchery Love

Seastitch

Photo courtesy of Lucy at Attic 24

Hello my bloggie peeps. Hope you are doing well today. It is pouring down rain here. We've had gallons of it so far this summer. Such a total 180 from the weather in Las Vegas, where we used to live. Speaking of which, we're driving there in a couple of weeks for vacation. Can't wait!

Anyway, I wanted to take a time out from work and share this pretty embroidered piece with you. The lovely Lucy at Attic24 makes these little treasures and is selling them at her blog. The one you see above is mine. =o) Seriously, I just commissioned it. Thanks, Lucy!  Isn't it delightful?

I have been in love with embroidered applique for many years but haven't made the time to make my own. If you aren't a procrastinator like me, here's a book from my collection I'd recommend. I like how the frayed edges add to the design of the pieces:

Okay, back to work. =o)

Sunny wrist pincushion tutorial

This summer the pincushion challenge theme is "summer".

Here is my submission:

1

It was super easy to make. We drink a lot of gatorade here and  I have been anxious to create a wrist cushion ever since I saw this great tutorial over at "my little mochi".

Supplies for my version:2_2

gatorade cap
orange and yellow felt
embroidery floss
elastic hair band (cut)
stuffing (poly-fil)
fabric glue
disappearing ink
Circle inking template

For the sunshine: I traced a 60 mm circle on orange felt (disappearing ink) and cut using pinking sheers.
For the face of the sun I used a 45mm circle and drew the face. Before I cut the circle, I went ahead and embroidered the face with floss. (I cut out an oval of orange felt for the nose.)

Then, I cut the embroidered circle and stitched it to the orange sunburst. I left about a 1/4 inch open to stuff the face with poly-fil before finishing off.

To make the hole in the gatorade cap, I took a nail and hammered it through. Very easy. ( I did it on the garage floor). Thread the elastic band through one hole, knot it and do the same with the other end of your band. (Be sure to test it and make sure the knot is fat enough where the band won't come back out of the hole.)

I added a little bit of fabric glue in the cap and added poly-fil for extra padding.

5_3

Finally, I added some fabric glue to the rim and poly-fil and placed "Sunny" on top.  Use something heavy to keep in place while it's drying. I left it like this for about 30 minutes.

Here is Emily sporting her new pincushion:

There is still time to participate in the pincushion challenge. The deadline is end of July.

Give it a try, the possibilities are endless. I'm thinking I may do a little monkey face next!
