My name is Roz and I am a blogaholic.

I was SO proud of myself in January when I whittled down my blog roll to 100. A few months later and I'm nearing 200 again. I know it's crazy. But having "bloglines" does save me a lot of time and makes reading much more manageable. She said defensively. =o)

Just experimenting here a little. With the last post I mentioned the "Pop Goes My Heart" video from "Music & Lyrics". Well here's a typical 80's video. This used to be one of my faves. And hey it has illustrations in it. You could maybe even say it's like a graphic novel. Win Win!

American Idol & Pop

Is anyone else keeping up with "American Idol" this year? And if so, am I the only one that is horrified that Sanjaya is still in the competition???  Yes, he's a sweetie but singing...he's so out of his league now.

My favorites are Lakisha (what a voice!) and Blake. Blake is just so unique and current. I can't wait to see what he does with the music each week!  LOVED what he did with "Time Of The Season" last night.

And staying with the theme of music, I tried to post a "You Tube" video on here but it doesn't look like they support the typepad platform yet. What a bummer! My daughter and I went to see "Music & Lyrics" recently and enjoyed it very much. If you like 80's pop like "Duran Duran" and "Wham", you'll enjoy the video from the flick. I can't get enough of it because it is so reminiscent of how the music videos were, too funny!

So what does this have to do with Illustration? A whole lot of nothing! But in my defense I did write a blog post showing the parallels between Idol and Freelancing. Hopefully I can redeem myself with that!

Commissioned Piece

So often I get caught up with the whole 'being published'  scenario and striving, striving, striving to reach each self imposed benchmark. Whether you're an established illustrator or trying to get your foot in the door, it can be a frustrating journey on many levels. Right?

And then you receive something like this in the mail and it reminds you of why you do what you do.

This is what it's all about. Look at this face, isn't she precious?  This is Emily and her mom recently commissioned me to create three 8 x10 original illustrations for Emily's room.
