C Is For Conference

 
I can't believe it's February! And that means only 8 days until I leave for the NY SCBWI Conference. I am so excited but nervous as well. *Holy Crud, I'm going to New York. Pinch me!*

Am I ready? Getting there...

Book flight and hotel - Check  I'll be sharing a room with my buddy Heather in the same hotel as the conference. Nice!

Artwork matted for display- Check
Of course I left this til last minute and was told ever so rudely politely by a framer that there was no way I could get a piece matted in a week. So a store bought mat thankfully fit my piece.

Business cards - Check. Thank you, Patty, for reminding me! Really happy with how they came out, so I'm equally happy to recommend Vista Print.

Portfolio- No check.  I just took a look and grimaced. Time to buy some ink and print out newer pieces. Amazing how images that I was so happy with months ago look ghastly to me now.

Appropriate Winter Wear- NO CHECK  I finally broke down and ordered a coat on line since Vegas has decided to only sell bathing suits now. Fingers crossed it gets here in time...and fits!

10 pound weight loss- um...no check.

This will be my last post before the conference but I'll return to blog land with lot's of pictures and tidbits. Until then, happy creating...and if you're going to the conference too, can't wait to see you there!

Months Of The Year

Some time ago I mentioned that I was working on an educational book for Creative Teaching Press. Well, it's now available! This book is one in a series that accompanies a children's music CD (Greg & Steve)
Because I'm impatient, I went ahead and ordered myself one (does anyone else do that?) since I haven't received my complimentary copy yet.

I'm really pleased with how it turned out, especially since it's the first time I have ever sent the original art to be scanned in house. Plus, I was anxious to see how it would look when they added photos of the musicians to it.

The only thing I'm bummed about - and forgive me for sounding ungrateful - I thought this series would be available on amazon.com but as far as I can tell, it isn't. Drat.
I'm hoping this will be my year to achieve that goal!

New Year, New Banner

New banner in the works. I was hoping to have it ready by Jan 1st but no such luck.

Finished! I had a lot of fun with this one. This little garden mouse is from a new dummy book I'm working on. Well, it's still living in the thinking tank but it was fun to put a face to the ideas brewing in my mind.

I'm receiving assignments where the client asks for a white background so it's really important for me to get the hang of this. I've tried working on white paper and white felt but always get a blue cast when I scan or photograph. So I'm trying to learn a consistent method to remove backgrounds in photoshop. Slowly getting there.
