I signed up for the Winter SCBWI Conference. I can't believe I braved it! This will be my first national conference. I'm so nervous and excited all rolled up into one.
I'm nervous about:
Flying on my own,
Going to a big city like NY,
Being surrounded by such talented auth/illustrators!
I'm excited about:
Flying on my own,
Going to a big city like NY,
Being surrounded by such talented auth/illustrators!
Really, what makes me the most nervous is the thought of getting myself from the airport to the hotel after I land in NY and then getting myself from the hotel to the airport when I leave.
I am notorious for getting lost.
But like hubby said... just plan to leave really early and give myself plenty of time. This is not my nature but it's going to have to be if I want to stay sane.
Oh I'm so excited when I just think about the fun of it all. And guess what? My PBJ crit group will be going as well so it will be like a reunion! I can't wait to see them and also my other online buddies that will be going. Please let me know if you plan on attending, I'd love to get together.
I think beyond the exceptional speakers that are lined up, it's just so inspiring to be surrounded by friends pursuing the same goals and dreams.
How exciting! You know you're going to have such a good time! I'll look forward to hearing all about your adventure when you get back.

Yay! Maybe we can finally meet you! Aren't you squirming with excitement already? Don't worry about "flying solo." I did it last year, and your hubby is right, just give yourself plenty of time so you don't freak out. :)

I'm going too. we'll have to meet up. It's pretty easy to catch a cab from the airport, just follow the signs for cabs and have the address for the hotel handy. (although they will probaly know it by name) People in NY have always been pretty helpful when I've visited, so don't be afraid to ask for directions. If a former country bumpkin such as myself can do it, you'll have no problem. :)

See you there, Roz! I am not a big city girl myself, but don't worry about the logistics of it- you'll be fine. And the conference is major fun!

I read or heard once that excitment and fear are actually the same feeling, it's all about how you think it in your head. And this is wonderful, so you are most definitely excited about everything! Can't wait to hear all about it.

Oh the fun you will have!! I understand that anxiety, though, traveling alone. I'm flying in and out of NY by myself in a couple of weeks on business and then having to lug my suitcase with me in a cab and then on a train down to Long Island to visit relatives over the weekend. The whole idea makes my stomach spin... but we'll all do just fine!
we will. won't we? yes. we will!! :O)
